Grace Removals, one of Australia’s largest furniture removal companies, has introduced the country’s first fully electric removal truck.

Managing director Craig Page says with this initiative, Grace Removals is at the forefront of the transition to environmentally friendly operations. “Our new electric truck represents a significant milestone in our ongoing journey towards sustainable operations. It’s more than just a new vehicle; it’s our commitment to our clients and the planet.”

Grace Removals’ newest addition boasts features that enhance operational efficiency. The vehicle has long-range capabilities to assist the company with its busy schedule across the Sydney metropolitan area.

The company’s history dates back to 1885 and has evolved to become a leading provider of integrated asset-moving and information management solutions.

Sustainable trucking solution

Australasian Transport News reports the electric truck is a Foton T5 EV (electric vehicle). The truck has a range of 180 kilometers. The drive batteries are replenished in only 1.5 hours, or 7.2 hours for overnight charging via the onboard 11kW AC system.

Foton Mobility Distribution’s general manager, Bill Gillespie, says companies nationwide are quickly realizing that sustainable solutions are ready to deploy. “They not only contribute to improving an organization’s carbon footprint, but they also stack up financially from day one. With the price of diesel continuing to rise, for companies like Grace Removals who are combining all-electric transport with base solar, it simply makes a lot of sense,” he says.

Electric vehicles in Australia

In September, Volvo Trucks introduced its latest FL Electric model to the Australian market. Volvo has been steadily enhancing the energy capacity of its battery packs for the FL and FE Electric medium-duty trucks.

In December 2022, Volvo Trucks announced that Australian express freight company Team Global Express placed an order for 36 Volvo electric trucks. These trucks are designed for urban distribution and have a load capacity of 5.5 tons in this application.

In July 2023, The Electric Vehicle Council released a report regarding sales of EVs in Australia. “Every state and territory has seen their share of EV sales more than double in 2023, compared to all of 2022. The Northern Territory’s EV market increased by 147%, followed by a 143% increase in South Australia and a 142% increase in Tasmania. In percentage terms, the ACT had the largest increase in market share by 12.2% in 2023 compared to 2022. This was followed by a 5.3% jump in Tasmania and a 5% jump in New South Wales,” reads the report.

The report adds that the number of EVs available in the Australian market has increased in 2023.
