Swiss drone company RigiTech has announced its approval by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for remote ID compliance for its Eiger drone. “This is a key step forward in the company’s goal to operate drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) in the US.
Announcing the approval, the company says Remote ID is a crucial development in aviation technology, providing the capability for drones in flight to offer identification and location information that can be received by others.
Why does Remote ID matter? RigiTech says “this system is essential for the safety and security of airspace, allowing organizations such as the FAA, law enforcement, and other federal agencies to locate the control station quickly and efficiently in instances where a drone may be flying unsafely or in restricted areas.”
RigiTech’s drone delivery systems
RigiTech, founded in 2018, makes drone delivery systems. They design their drones with a focus on networking, which is crucial for expanding drone delivery into a lasting business.
In September 2022, RigiTech joined the Drone Logistics Ecosystem (DLE) to collaborate with partners to standardize the drone logistics industry when it comes to technical, operational, and commercialization.
Their central RigiCloud software ensures safe, compliant operations, flight tracking, and management of drone maintenance.
RigiTech’s drones have been used for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) flights on five continents, delivering important items in sectors like healthcare, offshore services, and postal services, not only in their home country, Switzerland, but also across Europe, Asia, Oceania, and North and South America.
David Rovira, chief business officer and co-founder at RigiTech says: “Achieving this approval is a crucial milestone for RigiTech and the drone community at large, propelling us towards more complex and beneficial drone operations. We are committed to continuing our work with the FAA and other stakeholders to ensure a safe, secure, and innovative future for drone technology.”
Drones transforming logistics space
With this FAA approval, the company is one step closer to realizing its vision of fully integrated, safe, and efficient drone operations that can transform various sectors, from logistics to emergency services.
We see drones transforming the logistics industry and helping deliver goods fast. This month, Amazon announced it will bring drone delivery to Arizona in the US.
Global drone market
GlobeNewswire reports the global drone market is expected to achieve excellent growth in the next eight years. “These devices are adaptable and are gaining a lot of attention with applications across a range of sectors, such as aerial photography, videography, agriculture deliveries, surveys and inspection of infrastructure,” read the report.
The report adds the drone market is undergoing rapid growth and transformation, propelled by several factors. “A primary driver is the continual advancement of drone technology itself. Drones have evolved and improved their capabilities, including enhanced flight capabilities, a longer battery life, better sensors, and better cameras.”
