Trucking going green

Starting from January 1, 2024, California aims to transition medium and heavy-duty vehicles to zero emissions, to make all trucks on the state’s roads emission-free by 2045.

The point is that zero-emission trucks improve air quality by reducing Nitrogen Oxide emissions and decreasing noise pollution. However, implementing the rule faces opposition due to the potentially high cost, leading to concerns about increased consumer prices or the need for significant public subsidies.

Major trucking companies in California are pledging to meet state vehicle standards. Truck manufacturers are given time to comply, and there is a provision allowing the sale of older diesel engine trucks alongside the requirement to sell zero-emission trucks.

Internationally, trucking companies such as Mercedes Benz, MAN, and Scania in the European Union are also transitioning towards zero-emission vehicles, reflecting a global shift in the industry.
