Menzies Aviation will open a new 22,500sqm cargo facility at Western Sydney International (WSI) Airport’s Cargo Precinct in late 2026. The facility will handle pharmaceuticals, cold chain products, e-commerce, and heavy cargo from a 12,500sqm warehouse.

Equipped with an advanced Elevating Transfer Vehicle (ETV) system capable of managing over 150 main deck ULDs, the facility is set to process more than 150,000 tonnes of cargo annually.

It offers direct airside access, multiple freighter bays, and is designed to accommodate autonomous vehicles and robotics.

Boost Sydney’s air cargo capacity

Western Sydney Airport will operate 24/7, boosting Sydney’s air cargo capacity by 33% and enhancing supply chain efficiency for Menzies’ airline and freighter customers.

The Cargo Precinct’s prime location on the east coast, close to Western Sydney’s growing industrial hubs, offers farmers, manufacturers, and exporters unmatched opportunities to expand their businesses.

Cargo services in Australia

Beau Paine, global head of cargo at Menzies Aviation says this operation will enable the business to deliver first-class, interconnected cargo services at both of Sydney’s international airports, expanding its service offering to the company’s airline and freighter customers.

“We’re excited to increase our footprint in Australia and support the country’s thriving air cargo sector,” says Paine.

WSI’s CEO Simon Hickey adds that ecuring a world-leading service provider demonstrates the substantial opportunities this hub will provide for businesses to grow and access new markets over the years to come.

Australia freight and logistics market

Mordor Intelligence reports the Australian freight and logistics market is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.9% in the next six years.

“The maritime industry is a major part of Australia. The Port of Brisbane is the largest seaport in the state of Queensland. It is the third-busiest and fastest-growing port in all of Australia. This port is responsible for more than 28 million of cargo and 2,600 ships each year,” reads the report.
