The world’s largest express transportation company will open a new logistics facility in Germany.

Situated in Leipzig, the facility measures 17,000 sqm.

Some highlights of the facility include:

  • Six loading bays for lorries, and 63 for vans.
  • Six loading bays for 7.5-ton trucks.
  • Twelve charging stations for electric vehicles.

The company is also expanding its facility in Karlsruhe. This location will be modernized and have greater handling capacity. The sorting process at the warehouse is automated cutting sorting time by a third – sorting capacity is also doubled.

Vice President Ground Operations Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Nordics for FedEx Express, Stefan Dries says the location developments are part of long-term growth objectives. “Following the modernisation of our air gateway in Stuttgart and the opening of our location in Nufringen, we are also optimizing our processes at these locations in order to offer our customers even better service and support in expanding their businesses,” he says.

These latest improvements are a follow-up to FedEx opening a facility in Nufringen in 2022. This facility offers express service and later pick-up times.

The year of logistics facilities

2023 seems to be FedEx’s ‘year of expansion’ with several projects under way. From facility improvements to new builds, FedEx is on a trajectory to service the logistics industry second to none.

FedEx announced earlier this year it would also open a new facility in Dublin, Ireland. Construction for the facility will start in January 2024, and will be operational in early 2025. It will also house key operations such as a pickup and delivery station, aircraft operations, and customs clearance.

In September, the logistics giant signed an agreement to build a new facility at Istanbul Airport. This facility will be operational in November 2024. It will include parking space for FedEx aircraft and 32 vans.

In February 2023, the company announced the opening of a new facility in Cork, Ireland. This facility is a 50,000-square-foot facility and inspired by the company’s mission to become carbon neutral. It also assists the company’s growing road network and offers better air connectivity for its operations.

Cutting-edge system for FedEx UK logistics operations

Earlier this year, FedEx launched a new state-of-the-art import system at its Stansted Airport facility. The new system will allow the company to handle higher volumes in a shorter time window.

The new parcel sorting system will speed up the processing of imports, sorting double the number of parcels per hour than the previous system.

Another development in the UK for FedEx was its introduction of 23 electric vehicles in its fleet. This move comes in line with making parcel delivery more eco-friendly.
