FedEx has opened a new facility in Plzeň, Czech Republic. This move strengthens its presence in Central and Eastern Europe to meet growing logistics, e-commerce, and manufacturing needs.
The new FedEx facility covers 2,600 square meters—almost double the size of the old site. It includes a warehouse, office space, 23 courier van docking bays, and eight docks for larger vehicles.
A motorized belt sorter with DIM capabilities improves efficiency, while eco-friendly features like solar panels and electrical vehicle (EV) charging stations enhance sustainability.
Why does this matter? This move highlights key logistics trends like advanced sorting technology and eco-friendly infrastructure, shaping the industry’s future.
It also emphasizes the need for strategic investments to meet customer demands and stay competitive in the logistics market.
FedEx ‘s new facility features
Last month, Locate2u reported the logistics specialist opened a new high-tech sorting facility at the Memphis World Hub in the US.
The Memphis facility can handle over half of the main sorting volume, allowing for faster sorting and quicker transport of packages to their final destinations.
Now, here’s the features of its latest facility addition in Europe:
Strategic integration: The Plzeň facility is part of the FedEx European Road Network, linking directly to key hubs in Nuremberg, Vienna, and Hanover.
Global reach: It connects to the FedEx Air Network via Prague Airport, enabling fast, reliable deliveries across Europe and worldwide.
Extensive coverage: The European Road Network spans 45 countries and manages over 1.3 million international shipments weekly.
Streamlined operations: This system uniquely handles both parcels and freight in a single, efficient network.
In announcing this new hub, FedEx emphasized that the Czech Republic is growing as a prime destination for high-value projects in research, development, and business services.
It adds that the new FedEx facility in Plzeň strengthens this trend, boosting regional growth and solidifying the country’s role as a key European logistics hub.
The importance of Plzeň in logistics
The city is well-connected by an extensive network of highways and railways, enhancing its role as a logistics hub. The Czech Republic’s road freight transport reached nearly 65.8 billion tonne-kilometers in 2022, the highest in 15 years.
Research and Markets reports Plzeň is a growing industrial center, contributing to the Czech Republic’s status as one of the top 15 car producers globally, with 107.5 vehicles produced per 1,000 people.
