Smart logistics solutions company DP World has broken ground for a new container park in Brisbane. The state-of-the-art facility is located on Fisherman Islands.
Executive vice president for Oceania, DP World, Nicolaj Noes, says the company has realized the importance of the port in driving growth in Queensland. “The Brisbane Container Park is a major milestone in our progress as an end-to-end supply chain solutions provider, expanding our footprint in the city and exemplifying our commitment to the development of Brisbane and Queensland through trade,” says Noes.
The facility will provide customers with a suite of supply chain services tailored to specific needs. The new container park, situated at the mouth of the Brisbane River, will buttress the port’s capacity to respond to surging trade volumes in the city, including the rise in demand for commodities such as crude oil, refined oil, and cement.

The Fisherman’s Island Terminal offers stacking cranes, an advanced operating system, and 900 meters of quay line. Customers can access a full range of electronic business support, including electronic customs import cargo release, electronic data interchange (EDI) reporting, and web-browser-based information services. Earlier in the year, the terminal welcomed the CMA CGM Pelleas, the longest container ship to dock in Brisbane.
Adjacent to the container terminal is the Brisbane Multimodal Terminal (BMT) with road and rail links to the city and the rest of the region. The dual-gauge rail link and location of the BMT make it possible to move large volumes of cargo into and out of the port by rail.
The business announced a significant new investment in Stockland’s Yennora Distribution Centre in Sydney in August. By February 2024, DP World will almost double the warehousing capacity at Yennora by adding three new warehouses with a combined area of nearly 45,000 sqm to create a major contract logistics hub. These new warehouses and an existing 60,000 sqm facility at the site will be operated in partnership with AWH, Australia’s biggest warehousing provider.
The expanded facility will provide customers with a full end-to-end supply chain service, connecting importers and exporters to various logistics services via rail and road. Customers will also benefit from the seamless connectivity to DP World sites at Port Botany and the Sydney Port Precinct, gaining access to a suite of services, including warehousing, transportation, and freight forwarding.

Australia and the world are in the grips of a cost-of-living crisis. While the Strategic Fleet does propose that it will boost Australia’s maritime industry, and with some opposition to the initiative, is this the right time to introduce this fleet?
