Australia Post now has a state-of-the-art parcel facility in Avalon, Victoria. This cutting-edge facility, spanning 14,000 sqm, bolsters Australia Post’s capacity to support the burgeoning e-commerce growth in the region. It will also assist with the busy Christmas delivery season.

With the ability to process an impressive 40,000 parcels per day, the facility has been designed to cater to the demands of the modern e-commerce landscape. Moreover, it boasts the potential for future expansion to handle up to 60,000 parcels daily. Housing a dedicated team of over 150 employees, the facility is equipped to handle various aspects of parcel and mail processing, pick-up and delivery, transport, and linehaul operations.

Situated near the airport and critical business clients within the newly developed industrial park, the Avalon parcel facility will serve the Greater Geelong region, one of the fastest-growing areas in regional Australia.

State-of-the-art facility

Energy efficiency has been a paramount consideration in the facility’s design. Implementing a state-of-the-art Building Management System (BMS) allows intelligent remote control of mechanical and electrical services, significantly reducing power consumption. This commitment to sustainability aligns with Australia Post’s dedication to environmental responsibility.

The Avalon parcel facility includes cutting-edge features such as a tier-two large parcel sorter, ample semi-trailer parking, and indoor van bays. Additionally, Australia Post will handle mail processing, including letters and small parcels, for the City of Greater Geelong, Bellarine Peninsula, and surrounding areas, ensuring a seamless and efficient service for thousands of customers each week.

Australia Post’s expansion

Paul Graham, Australia Post CEO, highlights the facility’s capabilities, including processing more than 5,000 large parcels every hour through automated sorting machines.

“This modern facility is another key milestone for Australia Post and an important investment in our future as growth in e-commerce continues. Being close to Avalon Airport and having access to key transport links will ensure we can deliver efficiently through our network, which is great news for our customers, particularly as we approach the busiest time of year for online shopping,” Graham says.

By accommodating further developments, we strengthen the airport’s role as a key contributor to the economy in Geelong, Melbourne, and broader Victoria. At Avalon, the opportunities are limitless, we are just taking off.”
