Uber Eats plans to achieve its goal of making 100% of food delivery trips emission-free worldwide by 2040. The online food delivery giant has struck a deal with Zoomo, a commercial micromobility platform, to enhance accessibility to light electric vehicles for couriers in London.
Under this new partnership, Zoomo will integrate e-mopeds into its service offerings, providing Uber Eats couriers with a more eco-friendly mode of transportation. To encourage adoption, couriers who utilize Uber Eats will receive a discounted rate of £149 for the initial month of signing up, including insurance, for high-quality e-moped rentals through Zoomo.
Greener delivery
This collaboration aligns with Uber Eats’ ambitious target to eliminate emissions from its delivery operations in major European cities by 2030. By teaming up with Zoomo, the delivery mogul is fostering a more sustainable and efficient industry.
Nicolas de Juniac, UK general manager at Zoomo, commends Uber’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of food delivery trips. “We admire Uber’s commitments to reduce the carbon footprint of food delivery trips.
“By joining forces with Uber Eats to enhance courier access to E-mopeds, we’re not only taking significant strides toward a greener delivery landscape but also setting the stage for a more sustainable and efficient industry – and this is just the beginning,” he says
Matthew Price, Uber Eats general manager of UK, Ireland, and Northern Europe, says: “It is our goal to be emission free in London by 2030 and globally by 2040, and with this partnership we are moving towards that goal.”
Electrifying the UK
Zoomo, founded by Mina Nada and Michael Johnson, stands at the forefront of electrifying urban miles.
This platform encompasses a range of light electric vehicles, including e-bikes, e-mopeds, and e-cargo bikes. Its telematically enabled fleet management software, a global servicing network, and financing options make it a key player in the industry.
Currently operating in Australia, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe, Zoomo’s solutions are utilized by various last-mile delivery companies, making it a vital player in the sustainable mobility landscape.
As this partnership between Uber Eats and Zoomo unfolds, it marks a significant milestone in pursuing a cleaner, greener future for urban transportation and food delivery.
More Eats in Europe
A month ago, Uber Eats and fast-track grocery delivery service Getir joined forces to expand the grocery delivery sector in the United Kingdom and other European markets, starting with Germany and the Netherlands.
Getir, once valued at $12 billion, has faced financial challenges, leading to a workforce reduction and market exits. Despite this, it secured $500 million funding, resulting in a current valuation of $2.5 billion.
Collaborating with Uber Eats, Getir plans to leverage its acquisition of Gorillas’ dark stores network to provide over 2,000 products to users, aiming for swift deliveries ‘within minutes’. This partnership enhances Uber Eats’ existing grocery services, offering customers faster delivery times and a broader selection of essentials.
Uber Eats, already engaged in grocery delivery services in the UK, has furthered its regional offerings by partnering with supermarkets like Tesco and Waitrose.
