Shippit – a last-mile delivery platform active in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia – and eBay are about to make life easier for sellers, Australia Transport News reports. This initiative follows Shippit’s collaboration with Uber which sees retailers access one-hour delivery.

The software company was founded by William On and Rob Hango-Zada in 2014, first servicing a few fashion and homeware boutiques. The company’s shipping software helps retailers ship goods to customers. The software connects retailers with Australia’s leading courier companies.

Some of its software features include retailers linking multiple stores, and booking and tracking shipments. Its software also automatically allocates orders to a store closest to a certain delivery destination. The company works with other platforms such as Shopify and Magento.

Courier heavy items

The new partnership will allow customers to ship larger, heavier items such as hardware, furniture, and electronics. Customers all demand quick delivery. Now eBay sellers will be able to ensure parcel tracking and access to selected couriers when they ‘checkout’ on their purchase.

Shippit chief commercial officer Chris Weaver says retailers rely on Shippit to ensure their customer’s delivery requirements are met. “We’re incredibly excited to partner with eBay, bringing the power of Shippit’s last-mile platform to its retailers who are looking to maximize their customer’s lifetime value, while not sacrificing operating margins,” he says.

eBay was launched by entrepreneur Pierre Omidyar in 1995. It was one of the first businesses to create and market a website for the sale of goods and services.

Shippit’s new leadership

In February, Brett Chester was appointed the company’s new chief marketing officer, and Inge Letham its new chief product officer.

In October 2022, Shippit announced its acquisition of Asian start-up Luwjistik as part of its regional expansion.

eBay has also been in acquisition mode, acquiring Certilogo, a provider of artificial intelligence (AI) apparel and fashion goods digital IDs and authentication.

Global e-commerce market

Grand View Research in its market report says the increasing penetration of the internet is bolstering the smartphone-using population across the world. “Digital content, travel and leisure, financial services, and e-tailing among others constitute a variety of e-commerce options available to the internet-accessing customer base that is gaining momentum with increased internet usage,” reads the report.

“Established organizations and large enterprises are leaning towards online business due to lesser expenditure in communication and infrastructure. E-commerce offers the organization an easier reach for the customers, and hence necessary exposure to business is also achieved,” reads the report.
