Transport companies have vowed to do more to help transform the world’s transport systems and contribute to greener logistics.
As part of World Sustainable Transport Day (November 26), businesses are throwing their support behind promoting cycling infrastructure and smart urban planning.
The global freight forwarding market size is expected to reach $298.84 billion by 2032. According to Data Intelo, one of the key drivers of the growth is the increasing focus on sustainability and green logistics practices.
Data Intelo says companies are under growing pressure to reduce their carbon footprints and adopt environmentally friendly supply chain solutions.
“This commitment to sustainability not only aligns with regulatory requirements but also enhances the reputation of businesses, making them more appealing to environmentally conscious consumers and partners,” reads the report.
Last year the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution to implement World Sustainable Transport Day to highlight that a better future depends on a cleaner and greener transportation system.
Greener logistics: Transport sector faces challenges
Risen Energy has adjusted to more sustainable transportation initiatives over the last year to promote green logistics.
However, there are numerous challenges faced by the industry. This includes adverse weather, the condition of the vehicle, and the intricacies of loading and unloading.
High initial investment costs
The cost of changing the fleet to electric vehicles or renewable energy infrastructure is a significant barrier for the transport sector.
Many companies lack the funding to make these transitions while also maintaining profitability.
Limited infrastructure
There is a serious shortage of electric trucks, vehicle charging stations, and freight corridors. Without this, implementing sustainable logistics on a large scale is impossible.
Without the commitment to making more infrastructure available, even companies that are willing to transform are facing logistical bottlenecks.
