UK delivery company Evri has taken a significant step toward its sustainability goals by becoming one of the first companies to integrate the new DAF XB Electric truck into its operations.

Evri is one of the early adopters of the new DAF XB Electric truck, with only 10 vehicles included in the program. This initiative marks the final development stage of the truck before full production starts in 2025.

Why does this matter? Efforts like this can pave the way for cleaner, more efficient operations across the sector, benefiting the environment and setting a precedent for others to follow.

The delivery company looks to be on an electric mission. In June, it announced a $24 million (£19 million) investment to speed up the use of electric cargo bikes for deliveries, aiming to reduce emissions.

Global electric truck market

Allied Market Research reports factors like an increase in government initiatives for promotion of e-mobility, stringent emission norms imposed on fossil-fuel powered commercial vehicles. In addition, rducing cost of electric vehicle batteries are driving growth in the global electric truck market.

“Attributed to the rising demand for logistics services on account of expanding e-commerce, retail and manufacturing industries, the supply chain and logistics companies are actively participating in replacing their fleet with greener vehicles,” reads the report.

Evri is not alone on the electric fleet mission, the Royal Mail is also expanding its electric fleet. Over the next year, the company will add another 2,100 electric vans (EVs) to its fleet as part of its plans to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Electric truck subscriptions

Late last year, a US trucking company came up with the idea to offer customers a monthly subscription and a pay-as-you-go mileage program on medium-duty electric trucks.

Mack Trucks has been around since 1900 and has serviced and sold trucks in nearly 30 countries worldwide. It is one of North America’s largest manufacturers of medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, proprietary engines, and transmissions.
