Italy will soon be covered with a network of blue and yellow DHL parcel lockers designed to be convenient and modern.
DHL has partnered with Poste Italiane to launch Locker Italia. Their first parcel locker was unveiled during a special event in Rome last week. Around 10,000 user-friendly interface lockers will now be “strategically placed” at key points nationwide.
Pablo Ciano, CEO of DHL e-commerce, says it’s a significant milestone for all parties. “With the introduction of Locker Italia, our joint venture, we are introducing a new level of convenience and security in parcel delivery and shipping for both shippers and customers.”
Placement of parcel lockers in strategic places
The lockers will be placed in central and commercial areas of the cities. However, there are concerns that some customers might not be confident enough in the new technology.
Therefore, assistance will be provided to digitally empower citizens who may be less familiar with digital technologies.
Smart lockers are gaining popularity
Customers are looking for budget-friendly options and convenience. Parcel lockers offer customers convenience, allowing them to choose when and where to collect an item.
Too often, customers are let down by waiting for a parcel at home that never arrives. Parcel locker expert Aaron Leach from Bobbox Group says this sets lockers apart.
DHL recently also stated in a report that parcel lockers are “quietly transforming e-commerce logistics.”
What are the benefits of parcel lockers?
Parcel lockers are cost-efficient; they give customers 24/7 accessibility, and they reduce last-mile delivery challenges.
Sellers can save money by avoiding multiple delivery attempts if a customer is not home, saving on costs like labor and fuel.
Parcel lockers create the flexibility that customers with busy lifestyles need. Customers can pick up their packages anytime or night, reducing the logistical burden on peak-hour deliveries.
Last-mile delivery is the most expensive part of the process. Eliminating this process can reduce the costs for the seller.
