Ocado Group has opened its second customer fulfillment center (CFC) for supermarket Coles in Australia.
This is a significant milestone for the industry and customers, as it will see faster and improved deliveries.
“Across Victoria and New South Wales, we have already delivered more than 120,000 orders, the equivalent of 5.5 million products, with our customers getting near-perfect orders with zero substitutions,” boasts a proud Coles CEO Leah Weckert.
The CFC is packed with technology like artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation to improve the way orders are picked, packed and delivered.
What can customers expect from Coles’ new CFC?
It’s been just a few weeks since Coles officially opened its second customer fulfillment center in New South Wales.
It’s located just 40km west of Sydney’s CBD, which is a buzz of activity. This new facility has the opportunity and potential to “transform online grocery for customers across the region.”
This means that the next day, home delivery orders from stores in Melbourne and Sydney will be transitioned to the customer fulfillment centers by the end of December 2024.
Delivery times will improve, with Ocado’s technology allowing Coles to calculate the most efficient routes based on real-time conditions and the tonnage of the home delivery vans.
Greater choice for customers
Customers can expect “greater choice, better availability, improved freshness, and more flexible delivery options,” promises the grocery store.
Weckert says, “We sought the best global technology to reimagine the Coles online experience here in Australia.”
Coles invests in dark store
Last month, Coles opened its first $400 million customer fulfillment center in Melbourne, Victoria.
The facility is said to be four times the size of the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Inside this mega warehouse, speed is of the utmost importance. Seven hundred robots and employees work together to improve the picking and packing process.
