This year’s Amazon Prime Day saw “record sales” as the retail giant retained its position as Australia’s most used e-commerce site.
This year’s sales event lasted six full days, and “more items sold” than the previous Prime Day events.
However, in the US, the picture wasn’t much different. This year, Prime Day sales grew by 11%, boosting the amount spent for the period to over $14 billion.
Bloomberg reports that millennials are the only demographic whose Amazon Prime Day spending dropped compared to last year.
Prime Day US performance
US Baby Boomers (60 years and older) and Gen Z (12- 27 years) increased their spending this Prime Day by 3.8%, while Gen X ( 44-59 years old) by 1%.
Those between 28 and 43 years old (Millennials) are the only generation that spent less than the previous years. It might only be a drop of 1.3%, but it’s still concerning.
If data collected from Facteus is correct, Millennials were less enthusiastic about Amazon’s sales this year. The data emanates from consumers using 120 million credit and debit cards.
The number of Millennials who shopped on the day also declined.
