To handle the holiday rush in online shopping, Australia Post has brought back weekend deliveries. The service will cover all metro capitals and some regional areas, helping parcels arrive on time for Christmas.
Australia Post (AusPost) executive general manager for parcel, post and e-commerce services, Gary Starr says: “With the holiday season just around the corner, we know how important it is for our customers to receive their parcels on time.”
Starr adds that by bringing back weekend deliveries, the postal service is not just meeting customer demand, but hopefully making holiday shopping easier for everyone.
Australia Post gearing up for holiday demand
Here’s how the postal service has been preparing for the peak season and also looking back at last year’s busy period.
- All-year preparation: AusPost has been preparing all year for the holiday rush, adding thousands of new team members to ensure smooth operations.
- 2023 milestone: Last year, nearly 100 million parcels were delivered, highlighting the rising demand for online shopping.
- Cost-saving shoppers: With rising living costs, many are expected to jump on Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.
- Breaking records: Early Christmas shopping is set to push deliveries to new heights this year.
Christmas delivery deadlines
AusPost is making deliveries easier by expanding its 24/7 parcel locker locations for added convenience. Shoppers are encouraged to download the Australia Post app for reliable delivery updates and notifications.
Weekend deliveries will continue until Christmas, based on demand.
Post parcels by Friday, 20 December, for most destinations or by Monday, 23 December, with Express Post. For Western Australia and the Northern Territory, allow a few extra days.
Australians ready to spend this festive season
Last month, Locate2u highlighted new research from Pureprofile Limited (ASX: PPL), revealing that customers are ready to spend an average of $80 more on gifts this year—a 20% increase from previous years.
