Independent parcel carrier Yodel has teamed up with InPost, the UK’s largest out-of-home parcel locker network, to redefine last-mile delivery convenience.
Through this partnership, Yodel will manage the final stretch of deliveries from InPost’s extensive network of parcel lockers directly to customers’ doorsteps, handling hundreds of thousands of parcels.
Customers can seamlessly track each step of their package’s journey using the InPost app, providing a smooth and transparent delivery experience.
Flexible delivery options
As demand for flexible delivery options soars, this collaboration promises an enhanced service for InPost users across the UK.
Why does this matter? Lockers reduce the risk of theft or weather damage that can occur with doorstep deliveries, giving customers peace of mind about their package’s safety until it reaches their door.
Yodel’s research into delivery trends
Yodel’s latest research highlights a significant shift in consumer behavior toward online resale, driving new trends in delivery needs:
- Resale on the rise: Over half (54%) of Brits aged 16 and over are now reselling items on online marketplaces.
- Booming C2C market: The customer-to-customer (C2C) market has experienced substantial growth, with transaction volumes up by 200% over the past two years.
- Fueling demand for flexible delivery: This surge in resale activity underscores a rising demand for accessible, flexible delivery options across the UK.
Mike Hancox, CEO at Yodel says this partnership with InPost represents a new step in expanding our presence in the fast-growing Out of Home (OOH) sector.
“InPost’s locker network provides choice and flexibility for customers who are sending and receiving parcels. The partnership combines InPost’s OOH expertise with Yodel’s decades-long legacy of last mile parcel deliveries,” says Hancox.
What’s happening at Yodel?
Could this latest initiative be a way for Yodel to pump up its operations? This latest initiative announcement comes on the heels of UK regulator body Ofcom releasing an annual post monitoring report.
The report found that Yodel scored lower than average despite some improvements.
In February, Yodel was acquired by YDLGP Limited. YDLGP also agreed on terms to buy the entire issued share capital of Shift, the tech logistics scale-up that acquired and relaunched Tuffnells in June 2023.
Fast forward a few months and the parcel carrier has made a number of business moves.
These include its XXL service, joining Yodel Xpect’s Mini, Medium, Large, and XL options, which handles parcels up to 275cm long and 32kg. Deliveries are available six days a week from 7am to 9pm, with next-day or two-day options.
Customers get a two-hour delivery window, full tracking with a driver map, inflight divert options, and notifications via email or the customer app.
