Royal Mail is stepping up to meet the surge in online shopping by introducing its own parcel lockers.
The first of 250 lockers—reserved exclusively for Royal Mail customers—already live outside the iconic Mount Pleasant mail center in London. The full rollout is set to begin in early 2025, offering a convenient solution for marketplace sellers and online shoppers alike.
This latest business move is one of a few “service enhancements” the postal service seems to be addressing – should we say, “finally.”
Earlier this year, the postal service tested drone deliveries between the remote isles of Islay and Jura in the Inner Hebrides. It has also been under the watchful eye of UK UK regulatory body Ofcom, regarding its performance.
Parcel locker convenience
Here’s how the Royal Mail’s parcel lockers with offer convenience:
Send with ease: Lockers will support parcel sending, including label printing, making it simple for customers to send items.
Perfect for sellers: Designed for those selling on secondhand marketplaces, like clothing and other goods.
Returns made simple: Traditional online shoppers can use the lockers to send returns quickly and conveniently.
Pickup coming soon: Customers will soon be able to collect parcels from Royal Mail lockers for added convenience.
Royal Mail steps up its parcel service game
Royal Mail ramped up its parcel points earlier this year to meet growing demand, offering customers more flexibility.
- Convenient drop-offs: Customers can already use 1,000 shared lockers and 5,000 Collect+ points at convenience stores.
- Exclusive access: The new Royal Mail lockers are exclusively for its customers, boosting capacity and service.
- Greater control: These dedicated lockers allow Royal Mail to strategically place them where they’re needed most.
The company’s research shows strong demand for more parcel points, especially among younger city dwellers. In fact, 82% of younger millennials in urban areas want retailers to offer more click-and-collect options.
Jack Clarkson, group strategy and transformation director, says: “With continued growth in online shopping, we are expanding our range of services for customers to make sending and receiving parcels more convenient than ever.”
