Parcel carrier DPD UK has come out on top in MoneySavingExpert.com’s annual delivery service poll. The victory trumps Amazon Logistics’ two year winning run.
Those who use parcel carriers were asked to rate their customer experience with the carriers they used in 2023. Fifty-six thousand votes were cast.
‘Great’ parcel delivery score
“Winner DPD received 55% ‘great’ ratings, while its sister company DPD Local maintained its third place position from the 2023 poll, alongside DHL which also held its spot in fourth place.
Following a poor poll performance last time, Royal Mail saw a marked improvement, regaining a spot in the top five, which it held in previous years,” reads a statement by MoneySavingExpert.com.
Parcel carrier Evri scored the lowest in the 2023 poll. This year, the company didn’t improve very much and was placed 16th. Business wise, Evri doesn’t seem to be having a good run lately. In November 2023, the company came under fire for late deliveries, damaged parcels, and poor communication.
Innovations to improve customer experience
DPD is part of Geopost (formerly DPD Group), one of the world leading parcel delivery networks operating in almost 50 countries. Its 122,000 delivery experts deliver 8.4 million parcels worldwide each day.
Earlier this month, DPD UK selected Blue Yonder’s returns management solution to provide a digital portal for retail customers to manage returns effectively. DPD retail customers will now be able to book a return and pick-up at a DPD location across the UK.
In November 2023, DPD along with Evri will partner with the UK Post Office and Royal Mail Group for a buy-in-branch parcel service at selected branches. 0
Parcel carriers adapting with the times
Businesses are realizing the needs of customers. We look at the UK’s Speedy Freight who recently launched a tailor-made delivery service.
Its commercial director Sheila Crosby said at the time of the launch: “Speedy Parcels is the perfect solution for businesses that need a flexible solution for their parcel deliveries. We’re offering a tracked next-day or economy parcel delivery service throughout the UK and Europe.” Speedy Freight will work in collaboration with leading providers. This means it will be able to inject parcels directly into the chosen parcel carrier’s network.
Logistics giant UPS has also expanded its Access Point locker network in the UK. The company has partnered with smart locker providers and opened 400 new locations where deliveries can be made.
Customers can have packages sent to their nearest location when they are away. This gives customers the convenience of collecting their package at a locker anytime.
Delivery market in the UK
Express Market Research reports that the United Kingdom Courier, Express, and Parcel market is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7% in the next eight years – some good growth.
“Rising demand for fast and convenient delivery options have shifted the focus of courier, express, and parcel service providing companies towards exploring alternative delivery methods and enhancement of last mile logistics, aiding the United Kingdom courier, express, and parcel (CEP) market growth,” read the report.
