Courier companies, like Evri, are urging customers to plan and send Christmas gifts “as early as possible” to avoid disappointment.
In an effort to alleviate the pressure this festive season, Evri has added 25 more post office branches to its parcel drop-off network in Lancashire. This brings the network to 263 parcel shops and locker locations.
Evri anticipates that there will be a significant number of extra parcels during the peak time created by Black Friday and the Christmas shopping rush.
This week, the postal industry regulator of the UK, Ofcom, released a new report painting a bleak picture of Evri’s capacity to deliver good service even on a normal day.
Evri and Yodel courier company customers are the least satisfied with their experience. Overall, the company’s performance has improved since last year, now scoring 32% instead of 26%.
The watchdog found that more parcels are being sent, at 3.9 billion a year. This is almost the same amount seen during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Yodel hires more staff for Christmas peak delivery
Yodel is gearing up for another busy festive season, which will kick off with Black Friday. It’s taking on new staff in Borehamwood.
More than a hundred new couriers and 58 warehouse workers will join the team ahead of the busy time of year. Yodel is anticipating the load to increase by more than % this festive season as people delay shopping and wait for the last rush.
UPS gets ready with seasonal workers
UPS is planning to hire 125,000 seasonal workers ahead of the buzzing season. It will be a combination of full-time and part-time seasonal employees.
They need extra help with delivery drivers and package handlers.
Amazon beefs up team for Christmas
Retail giant Amazon is hiring 250,000 full-time and part-time employees and seasonal workers this year. At this time of year, extra hands are needed across their customer fulfillment and transportation operations.
“We’re investing $2.2 billion into additional pay for our fulfillment and transportation employees. This brings the average total compensation to more than $29 per hour when you include the value of their elected benefits,” confirms Amazon.
