The last-mile delivery sector in the UK seems to be on adrenaline in recent weeks, particularly for Yodel.
In its latest video Last Mile Experts’ Marek Różycki and co-host in the video Gary Winter discussed developments at the parcel carrier.
Acquisition and company changes
In February, Yodel was acquired by YDLGP Limited. YDLGP also agreed on terms to buy the entire issued share capital of Shift, the tech logistics scale-up that acquired and relaunched Tuffnells in June 2023.
The company then appointed Dan Hobden as its chief financial officer.
There has also been a number of partnerships formed with Yodel. Could the acquisition and business changes be a sign of things to come – changing with the times perhaps.
Yodel’s new service offering
Yodel has just unveiled its new XPect XXL to help accommodate shoppers who purchase heavier products.
Let’s shift focus to what is happening in the e-commerce market. This could be an indication of why logistics providers in the UK are ramping up their delivery mission.
A ‘market watch’ analysis by Asendia, a company that offers a range of international e-commerce and mail delivery services, shows the growth in the UK’s e-commerce market is being boosted.
What’s the reason for the market upswing? Many people in the UK have switched to a hybrid working model.
Delivery market expansion and competition
There is also a rise in demand for convenient delivery options.
Expert Market Research reports that there is an increasing need for safe delivery of courier and parcels and innovations and advancements in modern technologies which is further supporting the market expansion.
The parcel delivery industry is hot at the moment. Evri has just been acquired by Apollo Funds and Royal Mail will be sold to a Czech billionaire.
Technology and the need for delivery speed may be front of mind for many logistics leaders, to stay ahead of competition and get ahead in the market.
The need for technological innovation has even entered a 500-year-old postal service, Royal Mail.
There’s another technology mission parcel carriers are hopping onto – parcel lockers.
This is evident from the partnerships being formed in the industry. Are parcel carriers realizing that ‘speed is king’? And finally waking up to the realization that they need to modernize with the rest of the logistics world (automation).
