Logistics giant DP World is entering the retail and fashion logistics space. This follows its acquisition of Cargo Services Far East Ltd., a global supply chain provider headquartered in Hong Kong.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, group chairman and CEO of DP World, says Cargo Services’ logistics expertise and global network perfectly complement the company’s footprint.
Why does this matter? This addition to DP World’s portfolio will allow the business to strengthen its ability to deliver specialized logistic solutions for the retail and fashion sectors.
Who is Cargo Services?
Cargo Services, founded in 1989, was one of the first foreign logistics companies to enter China. Over the years, it has developed a wide range of services, including ocean and air freight, warehousing, and managing supply chains for various industries.
They offer specialized services for retail and high-fashion customers in the US, UK, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, and have also expanded to provide cruise logistics worldwide.
Apparel supply chain market growth
Grand View Research reports the rising demand for apparel from the fashion sector. The expansion of online retail channels is expected to drive the global apparel supply chain market.
The industry is seeing brands focus on logistics operations. In June, global sportswear brand, Verity, an AI and robotics company, teamed up to improve warehouse operations and inventory management.
They aim to provide real-time inventory tracking by using fully autonomous drones in warehouses. This will reduce stockouts, misplaced items, and shrinkage, ensuring accurate and efficient order fulfillment for retail and e-commerce.
DP Word’s business developments
In announcing the acquisition, DP World’s LinkedIn gives the public a glimpse into this milestone company development. “Our recent acquisition of Cargo Services Far East Ltd. is a strategic move to deepen our logistics capabilities in the retail, fashion, and cruise sectors,” reads the post.
In December, the company broke ground for a new container park in Brisbane. The state-of-the-art facility is located on Fisherman Islands. The logistics giant highlights the port’s key role in boosting growth in Queensland.
IMARC reports the freight and logistics market in Australia is experiencing dynamic growth. One major driver is the booming e-commerce sector, which has significantly increased the demand for efficient logistics to keep up with the rising needs of online shoppers.
At the same time, technological advancements have brought about a new level of efficiency, with innovations such as real-time tracking, automation, and data analytics improving supply chain operations.
