Australia Post stands tall among global postal systems. It has been ranked as one of the world’s best by the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

Among 174 countries reviewed, Australia Post was one of seven postal services to earn a ‘Level 10’ rating—the highest score on the Universal Postal Union’s (UPU) 2024 Integrated Index for Postal Development (2IPD).

Other top-rated postal services included those in Switzerland, Germany, and France.

A Level 10 score signifies that Australia Post achieved the “top level of postal excellence,” measured by the 2IPD. This index offers a global benchmark based on four key areas: reliability, reach, relevance, and resilience.

Group CEO and managing director Paul Graham says: “We are undergoing a major transformation and modernizing our business to ensure we keep evolving and meeting the needs of the communities we serve.”

Australia Post business developments

In August, the postal service introduced a new fleet of 175 electric motorbikes, demonstrating its commitment to safety, sustainability, and innovation.

These motorbikes, made by UBCO Electric Utility Bikes, are the first in the Australia Post fleet and will be used across all states and territories.

With a top speed of 80 km/h, they will allow Australia Post to serve routes difficult for their three-wheel electric delivery vehicles to reach, setting a new standard for sustainable delivery.

The company recently also added two new freighters to its fleet, giving it extra capacity and flexibility as Australia gears up for an e-commerce surge before the holiday season.

Global Postal Insights with 2IPD

Beyond evaluating postal development worldwide, the 2IPD helps policymakers, regulators, postal operators, and other stakeholders understand the role of postal services in e-commerce.

As a specialized agency of the United Nations, the UPU serves as the main platform for international cooperation in the postal sector.
