UPS has announced it will acquire MNX Global Logistics (MNX), a time-critical logistics provider. The acquisition will give more capabilities to UPS customers who rely on time-sensitive critical logistics solutions in healthcare and other industries. This acquisition will assist UPS’ subsidiary Marken to meet its drug product and biological sample shipments.
MNX specializes in the time-critical shipments of specimens for clinical trials, machinery parts and telecommunication equipment. Commenting on the acquisition Kate Gutman, EVP and President of UPS International, Healthcare and Supply Chain Solutions says, “Together with MNX, we will further that reliability and speed globally, especially for our UPS Healthcare customers. We continue to invest in services that bring unique value to our customers and create additional growth opportunities for UPS.”
MNX CEO John Labrie welcomed the acquisition. “By joining UPS, we will be able to use the MNX team’s expertise in global, time-critical logistics within UPS’s extensive network, allowing us to provide our customers with the best possible service.”
It’s all about timing in logistics
Whether it’s crucial parts for a factory operation, or life-saving organs needed by a patient, there is no time when high-priority freight is needed to keep things moving. “Since the start of the pandemic, we have seen an increase in the use of air charter for time-critical logistics. Supply chains have changed dramatically and the logistics industry has had to adapt by creating innovative solutions and turning to other methods,” says UK-based Priority Freight.
But what about the cost of a chartered plane? These costs are often quite high. “Supply chains have changed dramatically and the logistics industry has had to adapt by creating innovative solutions and turning to other methods,” says Karvi Rana for Logistics Insider.
Chartered flights have become the way to get important and sensitive cargo to a destination quickly.
How MNX has made its mark
For over 50 years MNX has positioned itself as a global leader in time-critical logistics by using a chartered plane instead of a commercial plane. In the case of a patient for example in need of a life-saving organ for transplant or radiopharmaceuticals (radioactive drugs). In the case of a patient, time is everything. “There’s no room for logistical errors when irreplaceable lab specimens need to arrive safely and as quickly as possible,” AMX states in a blog.
